Receptor is a russian dude who put simply produces some pretty damn sick Drum & Bass. This time around he’s tried his hands at some funky, 100bpm stuff with clear Drum & Bass influences and the combination is beautiful. Not only this, but he got sent the stems by production gods Noisia and the track he remixed was one of the absolute best tunes from their masterpiece ‘Split the Atom’ (I know I praise them too much but they’re just fantastic). Check out the result, I think you’ll dig it.

Bro Safari aka. Knick aka. Ludachrist has now released another massive moombah banger. For you that haven’t heard of Bro Safari or any of his other projects maybe recognise him from his work with american DnB group Evil Intent. His new tune is a remix of Atlanta based Treasure Fingers(Also involved in Evil Intent) and it has a  really nice groove to it. It has that vibe that makes it enjoyable where ever you might be, be it a club or your bedroom.

You all out there should know who Diplo is by now so i won’t get into that and if you been living under a rock for the last 10 years or so, go google him or something. Diplo has been very generous lately, releasing track after track for free. First he gave away two tracks form his Express Yourself EP and now i’v also found this Katy B remix that he also released for free. Lately he has been more associated to M.I.A and that kind of sound but this new remix is dubstep oriented. Will also feature the tracks from the EP that includes the very funny take on The Trashmen’s Surfing Bird.

STEREOLieZ just gave away this awesome EP for free. My eyes are now completely open for the facelift that Moombathon desperetly needed. This new style is rapidly taking up my ipod space and i love the new groove that it brings. When it comes to this EP I must say I prefer the Bratkilla remix over the original but it comes a close second. I neither have the time nor words to describe this EP any futher. Give it a listen and see if you like this as much as i do.

I have to admit we’re not the biggest fans of Moombahton at Art of Noize, simply because we haven’t found a lot of stuff which feels interesting (although there definitely is some gold out there). At the end of the day it’s just a different groove which people are gonna use to make interesting stuff and these tracks by DJ Macaulay (not Culkin the dude from Home Alone although he does seem to go by the full name as well) definitely fall into that category. The first is a remix of the House track ‘Seek Bromance’ by Tim Berg aka Avicii. This one has been around for a while now, but a couple of weeks ago a guy by the name of ESSBEEDEE did a retouch of it adding some of the midtones and bass. I’d say listen to both versions and see which one fucks up your speakers the best!

After that we have a newer track by Macaulay with some sampling from ‘Good Times’ by Styles P. The moombahton part of this is really musical but I kind of wish the sampling had been left out. Still a sick track and worth listening to.

Lazers, Lazers and more Lazers. More and more producers are using these moombahton inspired lazersounding effects and Ben Hall & Si James aka. Delta Heavy are no exception. I do actually like this gengre which is weird since I don’t like moombahton and this is basicly moombahton version 2.0. As most of you out there reading this (that is if you havent been hiding under a rock the last six months) my mind goes instantly to Knife Party when listening to this track. This is nothing but a compliment to the brits that made this very energetic but still somewhat chill track. I hope for more tracks like this one in the near future and it seems like that’s very likely.

I have to say Moombahton as a whole hasn’t struck me as entirely interesting so far. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some fantastic Moombahton out there which definitely validates it as a genre, but I find it all a bit overhyped. Cyberpunkers might just be changing that for me with this upcoming mesh of their classic trashy roots fused with the recognizable moombahton rhythm. I love it. The question is, would the “non-moombahton” version of this tune be better than the moombahton version. We shall never know.

There is a few artists/producers gives me a hard time telling if I like them or not. But there’s something there, because I keep following them. Diplo is one of these names. He’s sounds amazes me somehow. I thing i see a lot of originality in his work. And he amuses me with his tracks, I never know what to expect. I guess listening to Diplo is challenging, which I can not say about many others. I enjoy listening to to him, but i rarely do.

Anyways, saw this preview and I instantly hit play. This preview features some sweet laid-back moombaton tunes with Diplo written all over them. The EP is going to be called Express Yourself and is apparently supposed to be released real soon for free. This is special. Think you should listen to it.

So, I thought it was time to address this new thing that has been popping up in the blogosphere lately. Moombathon.

Apparently this genre was created by “mistake” by DJ/producer Dave Nada, who slowed down the Afrojack remix on the track “Moombah” by Silvio Ecomo and Chuckie to 108bpm at a gig where he was playing reggae/dancehall music. Nada saw potential in the sound and kept it going.

Basically, moombathon is a fusion of reggaeton and dutch house/electro/dubstep, where the groove and tempo is taken from reggaeton and the samples/synthesizers/sounds origins from house/electro/dubstep.

Okay, so why do I mention this now? Well, the genre has got quite some attention lateley due to some pretty heavy names taking interest in it. These are among others Skrillex, Laidback Luke and of course Diplo. (Although moombathon has been around for like a year now, but in a very small scale.)

I think this is a nice addition to the EDM scene. I’ve never approved of reggaeton, but moombathon is something different due to the EDM elements involved. Some tracks are so heavy and aggressive that I definitely would mix them into my set sometimes, while wanting to rip the head of kittens at the same time.

So, let me share a few of my favorite moombathon tracks so far with you guys: (Oh yeah, as you can see there is subgenres too moombathon also, but let’s not mix things up right now.)

Datsik – Firepower (Munchi Moombahcore Remix)

Diplo & Skrillex - Amplifire (Diplo Moombathon Mix)

Autoerotique - Turn up the Volume (Torro Torro & Billy the Gent Remix)

Okay, that’s about it for now. Stay tuned for more, soon.
